Stated Purpose
“With this application, you can:
1. Obtain customized, evidence-based recommendations to prevent neonatal GBS disease based on a maternal and neonatal clinical information.
2. Obtain optimal antibiotic recommendations for GBS prevention.”
from https://apps.apple.com/us/app/prevent-group-b-strep-gbs/id689290789
“Prevent Group B Strep is a standalone application that provides patient-specific and scenario-specific guidance consistent with ACOG 2020 Committee Opinion: Prevention of Group B Streptococcal Early-Onset Disease in Newborns. Obstetric providers respond to prompts about their patient’s clinical characteristics. The App then displays specific patient management recommendations. Specific guidance is also offered about antibiotic choices for patients requiring intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis. Neonatal providers can also find a link to current recommendations from the AAP for patients at risk for GBS disease.” from https://www.cdc.gov/groupbstrep/guidelines/prevention-app.html

Notes
None
Part 1: Editorial committee, content updates, and evidence grading
The app is consistent with AAP’s “Management of Infants at Risk for Group B Streptococcal Disease” and ACOG’s “Prevention of Group B Streptococcal Early-Onset Disease in Newborns”. There is no mention of a grading system or when the evidence will be updated.
Part 2: Source and authorship information for 3 entries
Authorship information is provided online for AAP’s “Management of Infants at Risk for Group B Streptococcal Disease”, but not ACOG’s “Prevention of Group B Streptococcal Early-Onset Disease in Newborns”.
Organization of information
The information is organized into three areas: neonatal, obstetric providers and antibiotic regimens. Once you select a category, then an interactive decision tree is available to provide patient specific advice for the ‘Obstetric Providers’ and ‘Antibiotic Regimen’ tools. ‘Neonatal Providers’ tool links to AAP guidelines online and is less useful.
Navigation
Neonatal tool links directly to AAP guidelines. Obstetric Providers and Antibiotic Regimen tools provide advice after answering a series of questions.
