 Note: The spaces (or lack thereof) between punctuation/words/ numbers is intentional and important to adhere to. DOI are  preferred over URLS. If there are twenty or less authors provide the names of all of them in the reference list. If there are twenty-one or more authors use an ellipses (not the ampersand) after the nineteen author and then add the final author's name.

General Rules 

  • How to format in-text citations in your document.
  • Use the author-date citation system for direct quotes: (Author Surname, Publication Year)
  • When citing a reference by two authors use an ampersand between their last names: (Last name & Last Name, Publication Year)
  • No authors, organization, or editors listed? Contact library@saskhealthauthority.ca to ask a librarian.
  • When citing a reference by three or more authors use the first authors names followed by et. al.,: (Last name et. al., Publication Year)
  • When quoting a passage or referencing a specific page include the page numbers after the citation number: (Last Name, Publication Year, p. page number) (Last Name, Publication Year, para. paragraph number) (Last Name, Publication Year, table number)
